This past weekend saw the final of the snooker World Championships take place at the Crucible in Sheffield, England. The final was between Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan who was looking to equal the record for most wins in the competition’s history matching Stephen Hendry’s 7 titles.

The match was played over 2 days being that it was first to 18 frames and after day one it looked as though there was only going to be one winner with Ronnie O’Sullivan leading 12-5. However, the second day saw Judd Trump fight back and manage to close the gap to 14-11 putting O’Sullivan under pressure. After a few more frames wen by O’Sullivan retained his lead despite Trump fighting back again to make it 17-13 but it wasn’t enough as O’Sullivan won the final frame he needed to win the match and the Championship for a record equalling 7th time.

In recent years Ronnie O’Sullivan has been back to his best after suffering with some mental health difficulties which put him off his game. However, working with professional psychologists and forming a great bond with his coach Ray Reardon he is once again world number one and the very best at what he does.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has said that he has had the best few years of his life working with Ray and his mentoring role has helped him massively in bouncing back to win more World titles and not give in and lose his head halfway through matches when losing like he has done before. Ronnie has said that he has always had a gift to be able to pot the balls but needed someone to guide him in the right direction and make him better and better and what to incorporate into his game.

This shows how important having a good role model and coach is to every sports player whether your young and just starting out or one of the most experienced and the best in your sport.
