On Tuesday, February 23rd golf legend Tiger Woods experienced a terrifying car accident. His car tumbled down a hill and he was pulled out of the SUV by the jaws of life. After the accident, he was immediately rushed to the hospital and sent to surgery.
Tiger Woods experienced a tramautic event but a light shined through the darkness. Immediately after the world was informed of Wood’s injury, thousands of people pulled together and did whatever they could do to bring Wood’s comfort and hope.
Friends of Woods, fans, family members, news stations, colleagues, everybody and anybody that has been inspired or impacted by Tiger Woods’s journey went to social media and did whatever they could to inspire him as he inspired us.
Personally, Tiger Woods has inspired me to work harder than everybody, he has shown me that through hard work you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. He taught me to set out to be different in the best way. I am sure he has touched your life in many ways as well. What you might not understand, is how you helped impact his life when he was in a down season. Although these celebrities and professional athletes live much more luxurious lives than we do, they still need support and encouragement at their low points.
News stations, amateur and professionals, sports teams, people, and places from all over the world went on social media and immediately begun posting that they were praying for Wood’s health and that he would recover. Although you may feel as if your voice is not heard in such a large community, especially with such a high-up athlete, it was heard. YOU made a difference. You will continue to make a difference by reaching out and striving to inspire and encourage people no matter their social class.
Tiger Woods is known to wear what fans call “Sunday Red” this entails every Sunday (the final day of golf tournaments) he wears a red shirt and black pants. This is a signature he has developed over the years. At the WGC Mexico Championship Tournament that took place on February 25-28, many of Wood’s competitors dressed in red and black to salute and support Tiger Woods as he battles the injuries he recently received.
A small act of kindness had a strong impact on Woods himself, he tweeted out to the community Sunday night to share the impact this made on him.
Whether it is a Tweet, a high-five, or simply wearing the traditional colors of Tiger Woods to support him while he recovers, the smallest acts of kindness can have the longest-lasting impressions. Most of the time, these small acts are free of charge but do challenge us to take extra time and consider others’ circumstances. I encourage you to take this story to heart and search for ways that you can help positively impact somebody that may need inspiration or support.
In times of hardship, it is very easy to get negative, but as a community, everybody pulled together and tried to bring encouragement and support to one of the greatest golfers the world has ever seen. Whether we know him or not, so many people went to social media and strived to inspire and encourage Tiger. Each and every voice matters, together we can accomplish anything!
Excellent and inspiring article Sara Davis. I am pretty sure you will be a PGA professional soon.
