When was the last time that you assessed what was happening in your organization? What did you see? Who did you speak to? Was what you saw and heard reflective of the organizational culture that you want to be involved with? What are you going to do about the leadership and culture within your organization, regardless of your role?

There are a lot of questions here, and it is extremely important that reflection takes place. What was important for you and the organization? Are the values of your organization where they should be? Ultimately, athletes on teams follow their coaches’ examples. Younger athletes follow the tone set by the veteran athletes.

Organizational leaders are the ones who set the tone for the culture and climate of an organization. Look around your current organization and see where the climate and culture begin. Knowing this information, what can you do to effect change in the climate or culture of your organization? Who can you enlist to help this cause? Will a conversation with key role players, coaches, front office staff, and others assigned to positions of leadership influence a change in your organization’s climate or culture?

You are the catalyst for change. You can influence others to create the change. You can lead change. Your athletes, coaches, and support staff need this change to happen. And creating positive change starts with you.
