Last weekend was the Argentinian Grand Prix in MotoGP and history was made as the Aprillia team won their first race as did one of their riders Aleix Espargaro. At the Termas de Rio Honda Circuit Aleix Espargaro took pole position in qualifying and came through on the Sunday to win his first ever MotoGP race and ending a record wait for a victory in any class of motorcycle racing of 283 races going all the way back to 2004.
It was a tight race between Aleix and fellow rider Jorge Martin who took the lead during the race and Aleix Espargaro overtook Martin on many different occasions during the race on one particular corner, but he kept braking too late in order to try and stay ahead. This however led to him going way too wide on the bend and Martin was able to get back in front and retake the lead again. This is when Aleix Espargaro’s team told him to get on the inside of Jorge Martin like he had been doing but, he should brake at the same time as the Ducati rider in order to stay on the inside line which would allow him to then take the lead.
This shows the Aprillia team using good coaching methods throughout the race in order to get Aleix across the line and to win his first race in his MotoGP career. Aprillia have clearly been adapting their training methods for their riders as before this weekend, they were the only team on the grid to have never won a MotoGP race but due to their coaching and key decision making throughout the Argentinian Grand Prix, they were able to bring home theirs and Aleix’s first ever wins.
