Sam Marchiano
Sam Marchiano is an award-winning content creator, equality advocate and adjunct assistant professor at NYU’s Tisch Institute of Global Sport. During her 25-year journalism career at outlets such as Fox Sport Net, MLB.com, ESPN and the New York Daily News, Marchiano recognized the crucial role allyship played in facing gender issues as female sports reporter. In 2012, she became a founding board member of Athlete Ally, an organization educating and empowering the athletic community to help end homophobia and transphobia in sports. Then as the organization’s Outreach Director, she oversaw communications, marketing, and league relationships in professional sports. She was also a founding board member of the gender equity non-profit, Equality League.
Currently teaching Ethical Issues in Sport, Marchiano was a steering committee member and research chair for NYU’s Social Responsibility of Sports conference and she is a frequent speaker and facilitator on a range of issues in sports, from sexual violence to gender equity to diversity and inclusion.
Her first documentary, Vintage Baseball, merited one her four Emmy nominations over the years, and her second Base Ball Discovered was honored at the Cooperstown Film Festival.
