Carlo Ancelotti is one of the most well known and successful coaches in the world of football. He’s managed many big clubs such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich and is currently at Real Madrid for the second time. He has already confirmed the Spanish league title being Real Madrid’s 35th in their history.
However, what everyone is talking about this season is their incredible run to the Champions League final under the Italian coach as it has seemed to be against all the odds that Real Madrid have got there. This is because in the first group game, Real suffered a shock defeat to Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol who were making their debut in the competition and after that everyone believed that Real Madrid wouldn’t be going very far this year.
This looked to be the case when in the first knockout round they played Paris Saint-Germain and lost the first leg 1-0 in Paris. Then in the second leg, PSG took another 1-0 lead making it 2-0 on aggregate but, Ancelotti’s side never gave in and turned the game around to win 3-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate taking them through.
In the quarter finals they played Chelsea and won the first leg 3-1 in London which looked to wrap up the win for Madrid before even playing the second leg. This wasn’t to be the case as Chelsea came back in Madrid to take the game to extra time. A lot of teams would fall apart under these circumstances having been comfortably ahead and being pulled back to being level but, in extra time Ancelotti worked his magic again to get the goal they needed to go through scored by Karim Benzema.
The semi final was also far from easy for Real Madrid as they faced Manchester City who were favourites to win the competition. In Manchester it ended 4-3 to City and Real did very well just to stay within 1 goal on the night. In Madrid City took the lead with 15 minutes to go and it looked to be over for Real. However, Ancelotti made some changes to his team and with 2 goals in the last minute by Rodrygo, Real got themselves to extra time again. They were then awarded a penalty which Benzema scored to take them to the final where they will face Liverpool at the end of May.
All of these results show what a good coach Carlo Ancelotti is as he has instilled a winning mentality into his side, and he also shows the leadership skills that a manager/coach needs to as his side never give in despite how often it has looked as though they might lose. He leads from the front and has the ability to control big personalities that will be in a dressing room like Real Madrid’s which is why he is one of the most successful coaches in the game and is respected by all football players and fans across the world.
