In keeping the same theme with my last article about my Brother, I have something truly beautiful for everyone, an interview with Equestrian Cynthia Kowalsky, my Mother.
Cindy is a University of Pittsburgh Graduate and certified Pharmacist, who gives a very unique perspective on Sports Culture. She is an incredibly unique Mother, and I know I said this in my last article about my brother, but not only can I not put this into words, there are no words that can describe her. (I love you Mom). One of the coolest things about her though, is that she is reliving a love for a Sport after 40 years, horseback riding.
Mom’s horse is named Hayley. She competes in “Saddle Seat” riding, as Cindy states, “I love Hayley; as a 57-year-old it’s amazing to be attached to such a loving animal. I have achieved childhood dreams that I never could have believed would be attained. Being in harmony with an animal and building a connection with the animal that you can see in their eyes, that trust is just so fulfilling, you don’t just see it, you feel it. Knowing that you’re moving in unison while performing … it’s beautiful. I’m not Cindy and she’s not Hayley, we’re one.” How cool is that?
Cindy wanted to come back to equestrian to see if she “still had it,” but I think that it is self-evident that she does. As Cindy says, “Before I was just another person in the grandstands wishing to be in the arena, now I’m living a dream, plus now I can get a glass of wine in the stands (Laughter).”
In Cindy’s mind, “True passion never dies; if I can come back to a sport after 40 years, anyone can. You can succeed in anything.”
Talk about Sports Culture – 40 years, and the passion is unrelenting. While being a loving and caring Mother, Cindy pursued a passion in Equestrian that exhibits how important Sports are to uniting not only our family, but the world.
Parents shape their children’s lives, and not often enough is it through Sports. My Mom taught me that through her passion for the Equestrian Culture. Love you Mommy (Yes, I said Mommy, get over it).
From Cindy and I, as always, Cheers to Sports. (The picture above doesn’t involve horses, it’s just a tribute to my Mom. Deal with it).
